Task sync and Toodledo folders/contexts

I was excited to see that NuevaSync now supports Tasks via Toodledo and in fact I would purchase the premium subscription solely for this feature. I tested this functionality via a premium trial with my Palm Pre but unfortunately find it unusable without support for Toodledo folders. I have many hundreds of tasks grouped into a dozen folders, without grouping these on my Pre it is unmanageable.

The Pre does have support for multiple "Lists", and mapping each Toodledo Folder to a List would make dealing with large sets of tasks manageable. (Sidenote: Toodledo also provides a categorization called "Contexts" which seems very similar to Folders. If you are looking to please all prospective users you may need to support both and offer users a choice of which one should map to Categories/Lists on the device.)

So the question for WebOS users is, are Exchange Categories mapped to Task Lists? If so, then mapping Toodledo Folders to Exchange Categories should do the trick. Currently on the Palm Pre all Toodledo tasks are placed in a single "Exchange" category. It's not clear to me whether this is a limitation of the Pre not supporting Categories, or whether this is just a default setting for tasks sync'd without a category set.

Just paid for Premium and now having problems...

Everything was fine during the free trial!

I'm using a Nokia N900 and attempting to sync with Google Mail, Contacts & Calendar and Toodledo. I started getting server error messages (unsure of exact text) and so I reset my account on the website. It didn't help so I decided to try deleting MfE entirely on the phone.

When trying to recreate the account, I get the message "Invalid host address for Exchange server" after typing "www.neuvasync.com" and pressing Next. Is the service down?

Cheers
Dave

Windows Mobile: Calendar event categories

I like the fact that Google Calendar names are now represented as categories on Windows Mobile devices, and that specifying a category maps it to the appropriate Google Calendar when synchronized.

However, a side-effect of this new functionality seems to be that if I create a new event on my device, I must manually select a category -- otherwise, the event will not be synchronized.

In such a case (no category explicitly specified on the device), ought the event be mapped to my default Google Calendar?

When upgrading to Premium service - watch out for duplicate calendar entries

I'm using a Windows Mobile device, with Nuevasync to sync with my Google Calendar. I was a free user for a while; but after I upgraded to Premium service I started to notice some duplicate entries in my Google Calendar (for events older than 2 weeks).

What seemed to be happening was this:
My device would previously sync up to 2 weeks in the past (per Nuevasync's setup for free accounts). However, there were several months of past event in my calendar -- because events older than 2 weeks ago seem to be left untouched after each sync (which is fine with my). Then when I upgraded to premium, it appears that Nuevasync was trying to reconcile all those older events, which resulted as "duplicate" entries in Google Calendar. More specifically, they were events from my work and other calendars copied to my default calendar.

I think this issue will be most noticeable if you use multiple calendars. The problem would manifest itself every time I would perform a "Reset Calendar" on the nuevasync.com website. What was especially frustrating were all the duplicated (and triplicated) events I had to delete which were copied from the "US Holiday" and "Contact Birthday" calendars I subscribe to in Google Calendar. Those went back over a year!!

Call me an idiot for being "fooled" twice, but also call me a geek for beta testing this: after successfully clearning out tons of duplicate entries, I reset my calendar (at nuevasync.com) and synchronized again to prove to myself that this was in fact the issue. And guess what? Yep -- spent more time cleaning out duplicate events :-(

The solution: Don't just "reset" calendar on the nuevasync.com website, but also perform the old-school reset on your phone (go into ActiveSync options, and uncheck "Calendar" -- then check it again and resync).

Native Gmail Push

I was going to sign up for the premium service and thought to myself, what happens if I pay the $25 and two days later Google decides to implement native push GMail to iPhones?
Setting up Google Mail but with different address

I would love to upgrade to the Premium service but I wanted to check with you first whether my desired configuration is possible. I currently use GMail to get work email to my iPhone. My co. doesn't support the iPhone and that's my only work-around to getting @work.com email to my iPhone. I have registered the @work.com email with GMail, which allows me to use either my Gmail regular login or @work.com login. I can also send emails out of GMail under my @work.com alias. I was also able to configure my IMAP Gmail setup on the iPhone to use my @work.com email address, and therefore when I send emails from my iPhone is shows that I sent them from my @work.com email alias. This all allows me to maintain a professional work image, while using GMail to route work emails to my iPhone.

I hope I was able to explain my setup above. My question is can I replicate the same with NS Premium push service, i.e. instead of using my @gmail.com account to be able to setup my iPhone with the @work.com account so that when I create and send new messages from the iPhone they look like they were sent from my @work.com alias.

Wanted to confirm if you know more about this before I jump and sign up for the upgrade.

Thanks for your hard work guys, but I'm starting to worry...

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the folks at Nuevasync for their hard work recently; rolling out such a complicated set of services must certainly be challenging. Along those lines, let's review where they're at (please note: these reports are based on my experiences with an un-jailbroken iPhone 3GS running fw 3.0 and Google Accounts):

1. Google Calendar Sync -- Inconsistent event synchronization for recent events, events older than one year not syncing at all.
2. Gmail Push -- Miscellaneous folder syncing problems / Trash problems. Push often slower than one expects of such a service.
3. Contacts Sync - Flawless for me with almost 400 contacts

COST: $25/year -- Relatively affordable

In my line of work, I need access to many old calendar events on my phone while in the field and I receive about 50-100 emails per day which I need pushed. More importantly, I need RELIABLE access to these features. At this point I cannot rely on Nuevasync for my purposes and I cannot recommend it to others in my organization. I find this disappointing on two levels: It seems that, though very affordable, I have paid for services I have not received and perhaps Nuevasync needed more time in testing before being released to the general public for a fee.

Once again, I don't want to appear too negative... These are probably complicated services to implement when one considers that they're working with another organization's code (Google) and a myriad of different mobile platforms, and that I badly want reliable push Gmail on my iPhone (something that no other organization currently supports). Therefore, Nuevasync deserves to be applauded. But seeing as how this is a paid service, I would appreciate a reply and maybe a time frame more specific than, "sometime last week" for calendar syncing and reliable push gmail.

Thanks for your time.

Exchange Question

Currently NuevaSync uses Exchange or compatible service to provide calendar, email, contact syncs.. Issue is, I also have my work email through Exchange.. Is it possible or even currently being worked on for a way to allow one to have 2 exchange accounts.. Maybe sync with NuevaSync and then NuevaSync syncs with my Google and Work Exchange accounts?... I know it's unlikely, but one could ask and hope. :D
