I don't know if I'm doing something horribly wrong, but I can't find any way to access the settings mentioned in the setup guide for nuevasync in the included M4E app on the E71x.

When you start it, the first thing it asks for is an e-mail address. Once you provide that, it asks for a password. From there, you're given the option to enter some details, but not the ones listed in the guide from this site.. help!

Our configuration guide is due for an overhaul. In the meantime we do have some Nokia/MfE instructions on this page : http://wiki.nuevasync.com:8080/wiki/bin/view/Public/nokiaFaq

The problem is the M4E app on the E71x doesn't even have an icon under 'apps'.. it's setup completely differently from the E71.

In the list of phones nuevasync has been known to work on, the e71x is listed.. could anyone help me find out who tested this on that phone and how they got it to work?

Hmm...did you install MfE ? I did a re-install on an E61 recently and it put it in a completely different place on the phone, which confused me for a while.

No, there's a version of M4E already on the E71x. You access it by going to 'Messaging' then 'Set up Em.'

First, it asks for an e-mail address. When I gave it the same e-mail address that I used at nueva sync, it assumed I was setting up a gmail account and tried to set it up with those settings, which of course isn't what I want.

Then I tried getting an account setup first and seeing what options were available. Here's what's availble when you click on 'email settings' from within a created account:

connection settings->incoming e-mail outgoing e-mail
both of which have user name, password, mail server, access point in use, mailbox name, mailbox type, security, and port

user settings-> my name, send message (immediately), send copy to self, include signature, new email alerts, email deletion (always ask), reply-to address

retrieval settings-> (email retrieval (headers only)), retrieval amount, imap4 folder path, folder subscriptions

automatic retrieval (blah blah)

Ah, I think I heard some news about this wizard thing on Slashdot last week. Here's the article they quoted: http://mobilitics.blogspot.com/2009/03/why-nokia-wants-my-email-password.html
I think the key goal is to bypass that configuration wizard and somehow get to the old skool MfE configuration setup. The comments on that article imply that the E71 shouldn't have the wizard
but perhaps yours has it installed by the carrier. Anyway, the questions it is asking related to an IMAP mail server, not Exchange, so it's on completely the wrong track.
You might try just calling Nokia and tell them you're trying to connect to your corporate Exchange server and see if they can tell you how to do that.

Ok, I have no idea why it's so different now, but I just did a hard reset of the phone in frustration of nothing working right.

This time, when I opened messages there was a new option available to me that I've never seen before.. "Set up e-mail"

After I went in there and pressed start, instead of asking me for an email address, I had two options: Get XpressMail and Mail for Exch.

After selecting Mail for Exch, I was taken to a url to download this: http://tamale.pwnij.com/e71x/MailforExchangeE71xPR1.sisx

This then installed, and I was given the full suite of options as outlined in other mail for exchange guides. of course from this point on it was easy to get nuevasync to work.

I can personally vouch that I have nuevasync working on an at&t branded e71x.. but unfortunately I have no idea why it worked for me this time. When I first got the phone, the email options were not what they were this time. Until I did this hard reset, I simply had "Set up Em." as an option, and when I started that I was asked for my email address immediately. This time, I had "Set up e-mail", a new icon, and choosing this and pressing start netted the choice to use Mail for exchange.

Very confused, but very happy it's finally working.
