Just tried it a few more times. I read that the test you perform is not on the SMTP server, so I could not understand why I go the red dot sometimes even though I did not change the IMAP settings. Anyway I found out that sometimes when I changed or reset the whole mail part, even though it kept my username, it lost my password, so as long as I retyped my IMAP password, no matter what I tried for the SMTP settings, the green dot came back to indicate IMAP was OK.
I never did get SMTP to work though, the iphone always said it could not send and just placed the mail in an outbox.

I think you want StartTLS on those ports, not SSL. I just realized the config form says 'TLS'. It should say 'StartTLS'.
Unfortunately at present the red/green test on the web site does not test SMTP at all. This is something we need to add, although it hasn't been much of a support issue because most users take the GMail quick config option.
Port 25 with StartTLS (not SSL) is the most common configuration for SMTP. Alternate ports are usually only necessary for clients behind ISP firewalls (not a problem for our servers).

Oh yes, that's an interesting bug. You do need to re-enter both passwords.

It worked!!!! I ended up using port 465 because when I tried 25 I forgot to change the name of the SMTP server so it did not work. I changed my credentials and remembered to enter both passwords, I forgot to change the server name. Anyway with port 25 and TLS I remembered everything, my email is now totally coming from my personal account when received in Outlook. No more on bahalf of.
Thanks.
And the important thing for me was that when sent from my iPhone the sent email goes right into the sent folder of gmail!!!!!
Just want to run the header by my Spam specialist at the office. As there are a couple of things related to the SPF record in there that might increase spam values. Though the message did not get stopped by any of my SPAM filters at home.
But for instance here are a couple of lines from the header that concern me:
Received-SPF: neutral (google.com: 74.208.4.195 is neither permitted nor
denied by best guess record for domain of Allan (at) weinman.ca)
client-ip=74.208.4.195;
Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=neutral (google.com: 74.208.4.195
is neither permitted nor denied by best guess record for domain of
Allan (at) weinman.ca) smtp.mail=Allan (at) weinman.ca

Hmm...that SPF data looks suspicious -- it's saying the message came from Google's SMTP server. You should see your own SMTP server as the originating MTA. And it should already be referenced in the SPF for your domain.

That's true. I entered my SMTP info into my Neuvasync SMTP settings. So any email sent through you should use my smtp server. Something must of worked partially as my email is being received as only my personal email address.
Can you take a look at what might be going on? I can do more test and send you some headers if you need them.
Allan

I also sent an email to myself at work. Nothing like that appeared. My spam score was zero. Not affected by the SPF record not matching.
The google servers it went through and the lines they added to the header were just because my recipient had a google address. So otherwise that would not have come up.
Thanks anyway,
Allan

It's interesting solution. I wish I can test it, but I don't have a separate private SMTP for my domain to be able to run this little experiment. Enjoy, Allan.
