Using an iPhone, I have my mail client configured with no limit on the number of Mail Days to sync. However, despite having more than that in all of my mail folders, I only get the most recent 200 emails in each? Is there some sort of internal limit that I'm running into?

I can confirm that the exact same settings on my work email allows the phone to pull in all of the messages in any given folder. I've also tried removing and re-adding the Exchange account, but the behaviour is the same.

Any help appreciated!
Any update on this?
Does the fact that Google Tasks has graduated into being a full Google feature bring us any closer to Task support? Also, how is it envisioned that it will be supported on the iPhone? Are we stuck waiting for better native support from the OS?
If you're considering just email (not contacts or calendaring), one advantage of using the activesync client is that it allows you to monitor folders other than the Inbox for new mail. This is handy, if like me you have server side message filters set up at GMail (or wherever) that move messages into those folders when they arrive.

I can only comment about the iPhone, but it's mail app will only monitor the Inbox over IMAP. You have to deliberately go into the other folders to check them for new mail.
Yep, I aleady had all that set up. As dboreham pointed out, it was actually the limit on real time pushed folders that I was running into.

Looking forward to seeing the new self-serve page that will let us tweak this!

Now, for users who want more pushed folders, and are willing to skate closer to the 10 connection limit (or who are using other IMAP servers that don't have a limit), we can increase our monitored folder count on a per-user basis.

So far we've done this only in response to support requests. However, there is a new page coming to the web site that allows some self-serve control over this limit, and also the maximum number of messages synced per folder. If we can complete testing on that feature today I'm hoping it'll be available on the site tomorrow.

In the meantime feel free to send in a support request to have your account 'upped'.

By the way, 30 minutes is more than it should be : the polling interval is 8 minutes so the average latency would be 4 minutes.
It may be that there's something going wrong with your account. We can check if you contact support.

This sounds like precisely what I need then! Thanks for the info, clearly I didn't read the wiki closely enough the first time around.

One further question about the current service: If the default number of real time folders is 2, after the Inbox how is the second folder selected? First alphabetically?

FYI, I waited for the email notification to arrive for your post, and it took about 7 mins. I'll keep an eye on it before the above goes live, but if that happens as soon as it sounds it might, I'm happy to wait until then to up my account myself
From the decrease in inactivity in the forum, and part of my own experience, it looks like push is working pretty well now. But I'm still seeing some latency issues. Having just sent myself test messages to be sure, I am seeing the following:

  • Emails arriving in my Inbox are being pushed to my phone, arriving within 10 seconds or less of the time when they appear in GMail or Thunderbird.

  • Emails arriving in labels (via server side filters at GMail, set to skip the inbox and apply the label), are arriving on my phone up to 30+ minutes after their arrival elsewhere.

  • Is the second scenario expected to work as well as the first? It's a little frustrating when you can see how well its working for the main Inbox, to not have it work for the other folders!

OK, it actually seems to be even worse than that. Just sending myself a test message, I saw it arrive at Gmail at 16:15, and so far (currently 16:52) it has not yet arrived on the phone Thats obviously multiple polling intervals have gone by without the message being picked up.
Unfortunately, today I don't seem to be getting any messages pushed to me, they're only arriving minutes later, presumably when the fallback polling occurs
Fixed for me too, thanks a lot guys

No, we have it fixed already. We're testing the fix before deployment to make sure it all works.

    Wow, that's great

I have to say its very refreshing to see a company being so open in its dialogue with subscribers, keep up the good work!
Good to hear that this is being looked into. Can those of us experiencing this do anything to help expedite the diagnosis? I'm really looking forward to all the little kinks being sorted out, so if I can help in anyway, all the better
I'm also having problems with deleting and moving mail today. If I attempt to delete a message from the inbox on the iPhone, I get the "the message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash" message. However, monitoring the gmail web interface at the same time shows me that in fact the message HAS been moved across to the Trash. Unfortunately though, the phone still shows the message as being in the inbox. If I then manually refresh the inbox it seems to correct itself.

I'm seeing the exact same behaviour when attempting to move messages between folders. For example, I attempted to move that deleted message back to the Inbox from the Trash, only to be told again that the message could not be moved. Again, checking in the webmail interface shows the move has in fact been successful, and a manual refresh of the folders is again required to get them to show the correct state.

I've tried both disabling and re-enabling the mail switch in the account settings, as well as completely removing and re-adding the NS account, but the same problem remains.
I have a small number of contacts that I assign custom ringtones to. However since my iPhone seems to periodically re-syncs my contacts, that ringtone assignment is lost. I presume this is a down to not having a meaningful way to store ringtone information against my Gmail contacts?

Is anybody else experiencing this/can anybody enlighten me if I'm wrong or if there's a way to get ringtone assignments to stick?

    Thanks!
