Apple's highly anticipated 3.0 firmware release is causing us some operations problems right now. Large numbers of devices have been updated within a short time period, and it appears that after the update the sync code in the phone triggers a 'resync'. This puts extra load on our service which is currently running at maximum capacity. We've enabled load throttling measures which should ensure it remains working, but unfortunately not all devices will be able to sync until the load spike passes.

I figured this might be the case. I tried deleting the account and re-creating it on my phone but now I get a message saying "Unable to verify certificate". I can click on Accept and complete the setup but when I go to Calendar I don't see the usual "Accounts" button in the top right corner to switch between my google calendars.

I'll wait until Apple's traffic calms down a bit (I can't even activate the new 3.0 update as yet) but wondered if this was related?

Yes, your problem is related to the service load spike we had due to devices updating to 3.0.

dboreham, thanks for the information.

What is the range of Nuevasync users?
100-1000?
1001-5000?
5001-10000?
more? (I could understand if you tell me it's a strategic number and you don't want to talk about that....

regards,

Fred

We expect to have service back to normal tonight. We're deploying some additional hardware and some performance fixes in the code, based on our analysis of the load this afternoon.

I just checked the service stats. We had roughly 15,000 devices upgrade to the 3.0 firmware this afternoon. Slightly more than we had the capacity to deal with, unfortunately.

ONLY 15,000 activations!!! I am shocked that it was not more like 50,000... What will happen tonight when everyone gets home and does it?

GOOD LUCK and THANKS for all your efforts !

That's actually a pretty big number. Not all users have iPhones.

Hey -- I'm not on an iPhone-- On a Sprint Treo Pro running Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro -- I was syncing fine earlier today and yesterday, all of a sudden, I went to sync and I got an error, removing all of my calendar items. I tried deleting the connection (thru activesync) and setting it up again. The Calendar wouldn't sync, so I turned it off and only tried the contacts. It synced 400 contacts instead of the 200 (duplicated all of them). Now I can't get it to sync at all. I've removed and added the activesync connection multiple times, softreset the phone..etc etc. My error message says:

"Your server is unavailable; please try again later. If you continue to see this error repeatedly, please contact your administrator.

You're seeing this because we took the service offline for a while tonight to add additional hardware. It will be back up shortly.

Ok- Glad I'm not crazy-- do you know if the photos associated with my Google Contacts would be restored as well?
