MfE gives System Error on email sync  XML

I am a premium user ( brown8 ) with a Nokia Nuron using Mail for Exchange (MfE).

Everything (Email, contacts, calendar, and tasks via ToodleDo) has been syncing just fine for about 3 weeks. But then I noticed that nothing was updating on my phone, so I investigated. It turns out that I'm getting an error on the email sync, which happens first, and so none of the other data is syncing either. If I turn off email sync, then the other three sets of data sync just fine. So my connection to nuevasync and my settings for my gmail and toodledo connections are obviously working fine.

When I manually force a sync of email in MfE, here's what happens: It connects, then says "Email: 0 sent, x received" where the x counts up from 0 to 17. Then it either just changes status to "idle" or it gives me an error: "System Error. Please try again later." If I look at the MfE sync log, it says the status is "In progress" and in the Email section it says under Phone "Updated: 18". When I look in my MfE folder, I see only fairly old email messages (from a few days ago), even though I've received many emails since those messages.

I didn't change any settings recently -- it just stopped working. Since I had the problem, I have tried deleting the MfE profile on my phone, rebooting, and recreating the profile. Same problem. I've done a "Reset email" from NuevaSynch. Same problem. All four of my status indicators in NuevaSync say "ok". What can I do?

Hi, this one is probably best done with a support ticket, but I took a quick look at your account just now.
Yesterday there was some strange happenings where the device got out of sync (that may have been
a side effect of your efforts to diagnose the email problem though). After that I don't see anything
bad occurring in the service. The symptoms do sound like an old Nokia MfE bug where the phone
would run out of storage space for emails, then behave strangely (e.g. not tell the user "I've run out
of space"). It would probably be worthwhile checking that it has the up-to-date MfE and device firmware.
Also try rebooting the phone.

If you want to try to debug this in detail, real-time, please raise a support ticket.

Thanks for the support ticket. We found a couple of things that were wedging your email sync in an endless loop.
A fix was deployed yesterday to avoid the problem (or at least to avoid it persisting from long periods of time).

Thanks for the update. I've responded on the support ticket, but in case any other forum readers are interested, I'll just note that my email is flowing again. All is well, as near as I can tell.
