This weekend i tried NuevaSync to sync my Nokia N900 using MfE, but i have some problems with it. Syncing my Google calendar with it works perfectly. And although it doesn't give any errors while synching my contacts, it doesn't seem to do anything with my contacts. In Google I had 146 contacts, which were already in my phone before setting up NuevaSync (synced with MfE directly to Google, which initially imported all my contacts, but doesn't seem to be syncing anything now). After setting up Nueva and doing a full resync, i added a contact in Google Contacts. Then i hit the manual sync button on my n900, but the contact was not added to my phone. I also tried it the other way but again the new contact was not synced from my phone to google contacts. Am i doing something wrong here? Should i maybe delete all my contacts on the phone and start over with a fresh nueva sync?
And another question about NuevaSync: Will it also synchronize 'extra' fields, such as birthday, IM-accounts, notes,..., to/from Google?

There does seem to be something fishy with certain N900 devices or perhaps specific users relating to contacts.
This is the second or third report I've seen like this (contact sync seems to be working, but no contacts are displayed on the device).
I'm attempting to reproduce it here with a test device and an afflicted account.
On the fields question: the service syncs all the fields supported by the device for sync (which in the case of the N900 includes birthday, notes, IM).
Note that the sync protocol does not support IM address types, so although your can specify an address as Jabber, GTalk, AIM etc at Google and on the device, there's no way to match those types up during the sync process.

Thanks for the reply!
I was just testing it again while you were typing your reply and now it just seems to work! Calendar is syncing and also contacts are syncing. I tried to add a new contact, modify it (tested it on both sides) and delete a contact (also on both sides) and everything seems to work Nice! thx!

I tried to sync my google contacts following the procedure described here: http://wiki.nuevasync.com/wiki/bin/view/Public/maemoConfiguration
First I deleted all existing contacts and then started the sync.
The calendar syncs fine, and on the details page of the sync it shows that 177 contacts got added which is exactly the amount of contacts I have in 'my contacts' on my google account.
However, the contact list itself remains empty.
If I add a contact on my google account and sync again, the details again mentions that 1 contact was added, but the contact list still remains empty.
The other way round doesn't seem to work either. Adding a contact on my n900 doesn't get synced to my google account.
Any ideas what I could check, change, try ...?

Hi, this is an N900 bug/feature of some kind that we've seen reported by a few users.
So far it's proven to be unreproducable here, so I'd be grateful if you have the time to help with some diagnosis.
Are you able to check the syslog file on your N900 for errors ?
I can give you more information on that if you need help.

I did a sync again while running sysklogd : 1) reset the contacts in nuevasync 2) start sysklogd 3) start 'Synchronise manually'
Again, the details show 177 contacts were added. The syslog does not show any errors though.
This is all that appeared in the log :
Mar 2 22:53:33 Nokia-N900-51-1 syslogd 1.5.0#5maemo7+0m5: restart.
Mar 2 22:54:25 Nokia-N900-51-1 kernel: [105319.409240] wlan0: roaming signal from driver, sending LOWSIGNAL
Mar 2 22:54:29 Nokia-N900-51-1 kernel: [105323.301452] wlan0: roaming signal from driver, sending HIGHSIGNAL
Mar 2 22:54:41 Nokia-N900-51-1 kernel: [105335.282531] wlan0: roaming signal from driver, sending LOWSIGNAL

Hmm....there should be a bunch of stuff from the activesync client in the syslog, even if it worked perfectly.
I wonder if Nokia have tweaked down the log output recently?
There's instructions for turning up the logging level here :

Hi,
I finally found some time again to try things out.
I set up the logging as described in the link you provided and then tried a sync again.
Guess what, it works now, both directions.
I've got an extensive logfile now with activesync logging in it, but I guess it doesn't make sense posting it all here as it doesn't contain any interesting error messages.
The only thing that I can think off that I did different this time is rebooting my device while setting up the logging.
