OK, it actually seems to be even worse than that. Just sending myself a test message, I saw it arrive at Gmail at 16:15, and so far (currently 16:52) it has not yet arrived on the phone Thats obviously multiple polling intervals have gone by without the message being picked up.

Ditto, although I will say that the annoying error message I got any time I tried to delete something has gone away. Good work on that one.

I'm not sure exactly why, but mine is working better today than it has anytime since I signed up for it on Monday.

Hi, we know about this. It'll be fixed very shortly.
Apologies for the broken service today.
This happened as a side effect of an otherwise beneficial change
that was made last night.

The issue we have today is somewhat subtle (which is why we failed to notice it for a while). It depends on the timing of message arrival in your mailbox as to whether you see the problem or not.

I take that back. It's working fine -- I'm just dumb.

From the decrease in inactivity in the forum, and part of my own experience, it looks like push is working pretty well now. But I'm still seeing some latency issues. Having just sent myself test messages to be sure, I am seeing the following:

  • Emails arriving in my Inbox are being pushed to my phone, arriving within 10 seconds or less of the time when they appear in GMail or Thunderbird.

  • Emails arriving in labels (via server side filters at GMail, set to skip the inbox and apply the label), are arriving on my phone up to 30+ minutes after their arrival elsewhere.

  • Is the second scenario expected to work as well as the first? It's a little frustrating when you can see how well its working for the main Inbox, to not have it work for the other folders!

Hi, this is how the service is intended to operate (although of course not what you'd expect -- and we're aware that this is something that needs more work on our end).

There's some explanation on the known issues page : http://wiki.nuevasync.com:8080/wiki/bin/view/Public/emailSyncIssues
(Under "Only two folders monitored for real-time push"). Briefly, by the nature of the IMAP protocol, each pushed folder uses one connection to the mail server. When we discovered that GMail has a 10 connection limit, we set the number of monitored folders in our service to 2. Folders in excess of this limit are polled (by us) and the changes seen pushed to the device. Polling doesn't use additional IMAP connections.

Now, for users who want more pushed folders, and are willing to skate closer to the 10 connection limit (or who are using other IMAP servers that don't have a limit), we can increase our monitored folder count on a per-user basis.

So far we've done this only in response to support requests. However, there is a new page coming to the web site that allows some self-serve control over this limit, and also the maximum number of messages synced per folder. If we can complete testing on that feature today I'm hoping it'll be available on the site tomorrow.

In the meantime feel free to send in a support request to have your account 'upped'.

By the way, 30 minutes is more than it should be : the polling interval is 8 minutes so the average latency would be 4 minutes.
It may be that there's something going wrong with your account. We can check if you contact support.

This sounds like precisely what I need then! Thanks for the info, clearly I didn't read the wiki closely enough the first time around.

One further question about the current service: If the default number of real time folders is 2, after the Inbox how is the second folder selected? First alphabetically?

FYI, I waited for the email notification to arrive for your post, and it took about 7 mins. I'll keep an eye on it before the above goes live, but if that happens as soon as it sounds it might, I'm happy to wait until then to up my account myself
