This morning, after deleting the nuevasync account and recreating it, I was able to get mail for a short while (less than an hour) But I was never able to send mail or delete anything or move an email to a diff label/folder. Any word on when this might be fixed??
Thanks.
Ok, we think your problem is that you've specified port 587 for SMTP at gmail, and SSL. Although Google say here that you can use either port 587 or 465, and STARTTLS or SSL, in reality 465 is the SSL port and 587 is the STARTTLS port. So your configuration won't work. We try to make a regular SSL connection to port 587 which fails because google isn't talking SSL on that port.
I took the liberty of fixing it for you. Let us know if this resolves all your issues.

Dave,
Tks for the quick reply. Am going to email support now and explain it to them. Appreciate your explaining about the error.....another thing Apple needs to fix, huh?
Oops, didn't see your second reply about fixing it.....thank you so much!!! Am going to try it all out now and if I still have a problem will then tell support about it.
I knew there was a reason I was sticking with Nuevasync!!!

I think they're working on it. I can now send mail tho, so tks for the fix!

Yeah, you're one of the two people with the 'vanishing trash folder' problem.
As you say, we're looking into where it has gone to.

Your issue won't be related to this very old thread, but here's a couple of things to check for:
1. Is your device connecting via a hot spot or other similar dubious connection ?
Sometimes a WiFi hotspot will spoof HTTPS connections, leading to this error.
2. Check your phone's date and time. If it's set way in the past you'll see this error.
