Too all the people that asked for folders<->categories and contexts<->categories, you both get your way.

A post with the full details is at: http://nuevasync.blogspot.com/2010/02/new-toodledo-options.html

You get to pick which way you want. After making a change, it kicks in immediately, but you'll probably want to resync your tasks from scratch in order to line them up with your existing folders/contexts.

I was excited to see that NuevaSync now supports Tasks via Toodledo and in fact I would purchase the premium subscription solely for this feature. I tested this functionality via a premium trial with my Palm Pre but unfortunately find it unusable without support for Toodledo folders. I have many hundreds of tasks grouped into a dozen folders, without grouping these on my Pre it is unmanageable.

The Pre does have support for multiple "Lists", and mapping each Toodledo Folder to a List would make dealing with large sets of tasks manageable. (Sidenote: Toodledo also provides a categorization called "Contexts" which seems very similar to Folders. If you are looking to please all prospective users you may need to support both and offer users a choice of which one should map to Categories/Lists on the device.)

So the question for WebOS users is, are Exchange Categories mapped to Task Lists? If so, then mapping Toodledo Folders to Exchange Categories should do the trick. Currently on the Palm Pre all Toodledo tasks are placed in a single "Exchange" category. It's not clear to me whether this is a limitation of the Pre not supporting Categories, or whether this is just a default setting for tasks sync'd without a category set.

You probably noticed the new support for folder/category mapping, which does almost exactly what you want. Unfortunately, the Pre task app does not support categories at all. On my Pre I sync one Microsoft Exchange account and two NuevaSync accounts, all with tasks.

Each account gets its own task list (initially they are all called 'Exchange', which is a bit confusing, but they can be renamed), but only the one list each, and no way to filter the view based on the category like there is in Windows Mobile, for example. This doesn't happen to affect my use very much, but it may well yours.

The best bet is to petition Palm to get category support added in a future firmware update. I'd be happy to sign it myself.

We're currently talking to Palm about some other items. I'd be happy to mention it to them the next time we speak, but obviously I can't promise that it will result in new firmware.

that's great functionality. too bad for us WebOS users that Palm is behind the ball on this one. thanks for building this out -- if/when Palm adds category mapping to WebOS tasks you will have a premium subscriber in me.

Shame, but I wonder if there wouldn't be some solution for Pre users regarding non-supported fields.

When I was a Blackberry user, I used a great Tasks application called Todo Matrix. They handled syncing with Outlook's fields by adding tags within the notes field.

While this wouldn't solve issues of searching by category, at least I could manually put something (for example) in a category by adding {Personal} to the notes field on my Pre. That way, when it hits Toodledo, it'll be put into "Personal" folder.

Ditto on status. Being able to see the status in the notes field, and enter/edit the status this same way, would be a stop-gap until there is a better tasks app on the Pre.

As an aside, do you know if the Pre's database is able to HOLD other fields? If so, it might be possible to build or use an alternate tasks app on the Pre, so long as it uses the database.

We certainly might consider that. It helps on adding new tasks, but since it doesn't help for the "hundreds of tasks jumbled together" worst case it may not be enough. Hopefully Palm will add full support.
