It's the #1 problem today and we expect to have it fixed soon.

I am having the same problem. Not only do I get the "failed to connect to server" message, but when I try to send an email I get an error message saying that the email couldn't be sent. I have turned off all other email accounts under settings, deleted my Google Sync Exchange account, rebooted, and finally deleted the entire Nuevasync account and set it up all over again. Nada. Interestingly, when I look at the GMail inbox on the iPhone, I see the same new messages that I see in my GMail account on my laptop.
Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I'm having this issue today as well. Just started using it today, too.

We're aiming to get this fixed in tonight's update.

Is there a way (on an iPhone) for me to set up my inbox to push but for all other folders to sync on demand (fetch)? I don't care about my starred messages being pushed for instance, but I'd like to be able to view them on my phone and as far as I can tell this isn't working for me by default.

Did this fix go out int he update?

I still saw this error when I woke up this morning.

Gmail "details" only lists one IMAP connection, and I only have one folder setup for push (INBOX).

Not to post to many times, but I forgot to mention that I am also still experiencing this problem, and a similar problem where my iphone says "The message could not be moved to the mailbox 'Trash'", but then the e-mail is in fact moved to the trash when I check the gmail web client.

Just for curiosity's sake, when was the last time you removed and re-created your NuevaSync account on your iPhone?

*UPDATE* I just now began having the same issue with deleting messages from my iPhone. Everything has been working very well for me since yesterday morning, but now I am having similar issues. I am guessing NuevaSync is just working on a possible fix for more bugs at the moment.

I've never removed and recreated it. I've turned mail sync off and on. Would it help to remove and recreate? I guess it couldn't hurt right?

That is what I did yesterday morning after reading about updates having been applied early morning yesterday. Again, everything worked perfectly for me after re-adding the sync profile, but now I am having similar issues as you.

Can't do any bad. Just recreate the account on your iPhone, open up the mail app (inbox) and let it syncronize for a while. If it's done, then send an email. If it's still synchronising (if you choose 'all mail' instead of '2 weeks') it will not push any mail.

I'm still having mostly the same problems as yesterday. This morning, after deleting the nuevasync account and recreating it, I was able to get mail for a short while (less than an hour) But I was never able to send mail or delete anything or move an email to a diff label/folder. Any word on when this might be fixed??
Thanks.

Hi, this is the power of Apple's simplified error reporting !
The iPhone only has one error it displays for synced e-mail : "The connection to the server failed".
It emits this message for pretty much any reason where bad stuff happens.
In your case the bad stuff has nothing to do with the common cause underlying most of the posts in this thread (which was that we were sometimes creating too many IMAP connections to GMail). That problem has been fixed and is long dead.

I looked up your account status and it seems that your outgoing SMTP server is not working when the service tries to send messages. This is probably some SSL/TLS configuration issue and can probably be resolved quite easily if you e-mail support. At present we don't have an SMTP test feature in the web site so for non-GMail users (for whom the configuration will always work since it is canned), sometimes you end up with a non functional configuration but don't realize.

I think that once you composed one message and sent it, the phone kept trying to deliver to the service, which kept throwing an error, and so on..
